Lofoten Islands map: from Svolvær to Å, island by island

Free download

This Lofoten Islands map covers the main chain of the archipelago, above the Arctic Circle in northern Norway: five islands, Austvågøy, Gimsøya, Vestvågøy, Flakstadøya and Moskenesøya, between the Norwegian Sea and the Vestfjord. It marks the towns and fishing villages, from Svolvær and Kabelvåg to Leknes, Nusfjord, Reine and Å, with a 10 km scale bar. The download button gives you the 1:50,000 maps, free.

Reading the Lofoten map, island by island

Read the Lofoten map from right to left and you follow the chain south-west. Svolvær, on Austvågøy, is the largest town in Lofoten, with almost 5,000 inhabitants; Leknes lies on Vestvågøy, Nusfjord and Ramberg on Flakstadøya, and Reine and Å on Moskenesøya, at the south-western tip. The red dotted line traces an eleven-stage crossing of the islands, on foot, by road and by boat. All told, the Lofoten district covers 1,230 km². For the villages, the fishing season and life on the islands, Visit Norway's guide to the Lofoten Islands goes into more detail.

Ski touring in Lofoten, from summit to sea

Our week in Lofoten is based in Svolvær, on the right of this map, in a 3-star waterfront hotel built in the style of the rorbuer, the fishermen's cabins, looking out over the Vestfjord. Each morning you skin up a summit facing the sea, then ski all the way down to the shoreline, through couloirs or wooded slopes, on a route chosen that morning. On Austvågøy itself, Higravtindan, the island's highest summit, rises to 1,148 m. Conditions permitting, a boat takes you out to the islands of Stormolla and Litlmolla, and some evenings end in Henningsvær or Reine. The next departure runs from 13 to 20 March 2027, with a PowderWeGo professional for every six skiers and avalanche airbag pack, transceiver, shovel and probe provided. You will find the full programme on our ski touring Norway page.

The maps for our other destinations, from Val d'Isère to Kamchatka, are gathered on our page of piste maps and ski maps.

Frequently asked questions

Can you ski in the Lofoten Islands?

Yes, on touring skis, from March to April: you skin up a summit above the sea and ski back down to the shoreline. Our 2027 week runs from 13 to 20 March, based in Svolvær.

How do you get to the Lofoten Islands?

By air: to Oslo, then on to Svolvær via Bodø, the route our group takes on the first day. Avinor runs the airports at Bodø and Svolvær, and we can include the Oslo–Svolvær flights on request.
