This roving ski trip takes you into the Silvretta, on the border between Austria and Switzerland, where Piz Linard rises to 3,410 m. Ski tourers love the range for its gently sloping glaciers and welcoming huts, and for the warmth of the Tyroleans.
That combination makes it a gentle introduction to Austria’s great ski touring routes. Our qualified ski instructors (French state diploma, BEES), off-piste specialists, and IFMGA/UIAGM mountain guides have picked routes for you away from the tracks, in side valleys that are often still untouched.
Around the Bielerhöhe and the Silvrettapass, your days are given over to ski touring: you put your skins on for climbs of up to 1,200 m of vertical, at a moderate pace held over several hours, then carry straight on into an off-piste descent.
On the sixth day, if conditions allow, your guide takes you to the summit of Piz Buin, at 3,312 m, and you cross into Switzerland on your skis.
Before the Silvretta, the trip begins in the Pitztal. After breakfast, a morning of freeride touring and freeriding gets your legs going again, then two days of freeride touring show you the valley and its glacier.
On the afternoon of day four, you move on to the Bielerhöhe; the last stretch, from the top of the cable car to the mountain hotel, is included in the trip.
After skiing
You spend seven nights in 3-star hotels with breakfast: in the Pitztal, then at the Bielerhöhe, and back in the Pitztal for the last night. We chose these places for their character; the one at the Bielerhöhe, a mountain hotel cut off from the world, stands among the peaks of the Silvretta.
In the evening, you enjoy the local specialities, from warming cheese dishes to traditional Alpine liqueurs. Dinners are at your own expense; picnic lunches are included.
Your guide adapts each day to the snow, the weather, and the group’s level and wishes, and has the final word on the route, for everyone’s safety and enjoyment.
When the weather calls for a change of plan, the guides decide on it with you.
In the Tyrol, traditional culture is part of everyday life, in the mountain huts and around the dinner table, and singing still has its place. After skiing, the atmosphere of the Austrian valleys carries the day on into the evening.
Each traveller is lent their safety kit: avalanche airbag pack, transceiver, shovel and probe.
The programme
Meet at the hotel in the Pitztal in the afternoon. A kit check, any last-minute gear or food shopping, then packs made ready for the next day. Night at the hotel.
Breakfast at 8 am, then any spare luggage stays in the vehicle, in the car park. The morning is a warm-up of freeride touring and freeriding in the Pitztal.

Day 1: Meet at the hotel in Pitztal in the mid-afternoon. After checking your equipment and, if necessary, making any last-minute purchases of gear or food supplies, return to the hotel and pack your bags for departure the following day. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 2: Meet for breakfast at 8:00 AM. Check-out formalities and drop-off of any excess luggage in the vehicle, which will remain in the parking lot. The morning will be dedicated to a Backcountry skiing/Freeride warm-up in Pitztal.
Days 3 and 4: Backcountry skiing in Pitztal, with the possible ascent of the famous Wildspitze, the highest peak in Tyrol (3800 m). In the afternoon of Day 4: transfer to Bielerhöhe and evening at the mountain hotel.
Day 5: Ski touring around Bielerhöhe/Silvrettapass
Day 6: Ski touring around Bielerhöhe/if conditions permit: ascent of Piz Buin (3312 m) and crossing into Switzerland
Day 7: Ski touring around Bielerhöhe/return to the valley/end of stay.
This program is indicative and may be modified depending on snow and weather conditions, the group's skill level and preferences, to ensure everyone's safety and enjoyment. The guide has sole discretion in this matter.
