Heli-skiing in Turkey: discover the beauty of the Lesser Caucasus

The Kaçkar is a mountain range located in the north-east of Turkey in Anatolia, in the Pontic Range (or Pontic Alps). It stretches along the Black Sea to Georgia for about 500 km from east to west and is 60 km wide. Its highest point is Kaçkar Dağı, which rises to 3,942 m. The proximity of the Black Sea provides a favourable climate for abundant snow and its humidity allows for a good stability of the snow cover. These little-visited natural areas are an ideal place for heli-skiing and backcountry skiing, a true wonder of the world and a destination to discover!

The helicopter landing site is in Ayder, a traditional village in the Firtina Valley, located at an altitude of 1,100 m and a 3-hour drive from Trazbon. Heli-skiing professionals agree that it has an excellent reputation in terms of safety, maintenance and organisation. The aircraft (AS350 B2 and B3) are piloted by an experienced and qualified team of Swiss origin with whom we are used to working.

During your ski holiday in Turkey, you will have the chance to discover a ski area of over 5,000 km2 (2000 square miles), the areas are extremely varied, with unlimited routes and consistently sumptuous landscapes. You will be away from the ski slopes and the overcrowded ski resorts. The runs are generally located between 1,200 and 3,600 metres above sea level, with vertical descents of 700 to 1,200 metres. Most are in open terrain, some may continue into or end in forest. The helicopter picks up in front of the hotel and the nearest drop-off points are only a few minutes away.

After a day on the slopes, you can choose to relax in a traditional Turkish bath or in the comfort of the newly renovated Ayder Hotel. It now offers comfortable double rooms and suites with a sitting area and fireplace. A gym, sauna and whirlpool bath are available. Finally, dinner will be an opportunity to discover local specialities in a very friendly atmosphere.
